Impressions

General information

Directions

Directly after starting from the community center in Wierschem, the hiker can already enjoy the open expanse of the Mosel plateau. On natural paths, the route steadily climbs, which is finally rewarded with a magnificent view over the deeply incised Elzbach valley and Pyrmont Castle. Further through the Count Eltz Forest, the winding Elzbach soon is reached, swirling in countless loops. Later, the path joins the Moselhöhenweg, which initially leads the hiker through a floodplain and finally onto a hill. Along steep rocks, there is a breathtaking view of the fairytale-like Eltz Castle, which is then to be conquered via a stone bridge. After the excursion into the Middle Ages, the hiker immerses again into the magnificent nature and marvels at the varied river valley of the Elzbach and graceful stunted oak forests, before the Ringelsteiner Mill invites to stop for a rest. Refreshed, a wonderful but steep ascent follows, which repeatedly rewards the hiker with beautiful views and finally leads back onto the wide Mosel plateau. Passing the windbreak hedges of the Tholeisterhof, the route continues into the quiet valley of the Kerner Bach, where alternately small forests and wide fields follow. Upon returning to Wierschem, a final view of the small Antonius Chapel on the edge of town is worthwhile.

Safety Guidelines

+++Surefootedness is required in some sections. The path should not be hiked on ice.+++

General safety instructions:

Safety Instructions - Safe Hiking on the Traumpfade

Hikers want narrow paths, natural ways (over forest floor, grassy paths or along streams) and rocky climbs that lead to spectacular views. Naturally, such paths must be walked with special care.

What you should consider on your hike:

  • Wear weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wetness or heat and sun.
  • Plan your hike with adequate breaks and conserve your strength.
  • Carry sufficient liquid. There are not always places to stop for refreshments.
  • Please wear hiking shoes appropriate for the Traumpfade, which provide you with sufficient support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
  • If you believe certain sections are not passable for you, you should bypass or turn back. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections.
  • Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones or holes in the path.
  • You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a hike.
  • Before your hike, check online at https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfade/wege-status/ whether the Traumpfad you want to hike might be closed, if detours exist, if path construction measures are planned, or if there are tree-felling works or other disturbances.
  • Recommended hiking months: April to October.

Difficulty classification

Easy routes

... feature only slight elevation changes and are usually manageable in half a day in terms of distance. They do not demand special fitness and surefootedness. There are no sections requiring freedom from dizziness. Short steeper sections are possible. Depending on the path conditions, some parts may be difficult to walk when wet.

Medium routes

... are manageable with normal fitness. Path sections may demand good surefootedness, so sturdy footwear is important; hiking poles can be useful. Some somewhat longer and also steeper ascents and descents are possible. Difficult (partly secured) sections are the absolute exception and can usually be avoided by detours. Natural sections can be difficult to walk when wet.

Difficult routes

... require very good fitness and endurance due to length and/or elevation gains. Very good surefootedness is also necessary to manage steep ascents and descents on sometimes demanding paths. Secured sections and/or easy climbing passages that require a minimum degree of freedom from dizziness are possible. Sturdy footwear and hiking poles are important. Paths and exposed sections are often only difficult or not passable at all in wet or wintry weather.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear is recommended for the route!
