Idyllic corners & beautiful panoramic views. Over 4 km, the Ho2 is a walking route with views into the upper Ruwer valley and the heights of the Hunsrück.
Holzerath is one of the highest located villages in the Ruwer collective municipality. The state-recognized tourist resort in the middle of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park with views of the Osburger Hochwald is very popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts.
This local circular hiking route is ideal for a short hike through the large forests with attractively alternating tree species.
At the start of the hike into "Hardtstraße" we turn right towards "Bockelsheck", past the TV tower into the "Lebertswald". An idyllic spot invites you after about 500 meters to a view over Schöndorf towards Ollmuth or simply to linger and enjoy the peace. After that, the route goes downhill through the "Atzenbruch" to the "Alten Kippkreuz" before crossing the connecting road L 146 between Schöndorf and Holzerath, then continuing over the "Erdbeerenberg".
Past the "Heckelchen" (KM 2) it continues through the "Wachswiesen" to the "Poswies" before reaching the village via "Auf den langen Wiesen" to the fire station. After a turn to the left, the circular route leads us down the "Wiesengrund". Passing the "Eschengretchen" through the "Schomelberg" to the "Zeidelhuf". After crossing the road K 56 between Bonerath and Holzerath, it goes uphill to the "Rudelkopf". Past the "Büngerten" and the "Hahnenfeldern", the path goes straight into the new residential area "Zur Lay" from where, in clear weather, you have a wonderful view over Schöndorf and Ollmuth extending to Pellingen and beyond – this view compensates for the strenuous climb over the "Rudelkopf" here to the top. At the end of the street, you reach the L146 and 200 meters later are back at the starting point in "Hardtstraße".
Basically, entering the forest and walking the trails is at your own risk. Depending on the season and weather, increased surefootedness is required on some path sections. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate tread adapted to the season and weather.
Sturdy footwear, comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing is recommended.
After the hike, a short detour to the popular recreational area at Holzerather See with water treading basin, barbecue hut & playground.
From Trier via the L 143, from Pluwiger Hammer onto the L 146 to Holzerath.
Parking lot in Hardtstraße in Holzerath. Alternatively, it is also possible to start in Schulstraße. The parking lot is to the left of the fire station.
Arrival is possible with line 30 of the VRT Trier.
