"Zell Black Cat" fountain

The citizens of Zell have set a worthy monument to their world-famous wine, the large wine site "Zeller Schwarze Katz", with the fountain.

The fountain square is located in the city center and is the focal point of numerous events. The fountain was created in 1936 from Eifel basalt. "He steiht ferm wie'n Zeller us'm Hamm" - "Here stands firm a Zeller from Hamm", reads the inscription on the fountain, referring to the fact that in 1532, during the defense of Trier against the onslaught of Franz von Sickingen, a hundred Zeller citizens made their way to Trier to fend off this attack. The people of Trier ultimately succeeded with the support of the Zeller population.
