The observation tower "Prinzenkopf" (approx. 10 minutes' walk from Marienburg Castle) is considered one of the most beautiful vantage points on the Moselle.
You have a breathtaking view over the Moselle Valley from Reil to the Bremmer Calmont, the almost 14 km long Moselle loop "Zeller Hamm", the Hunsrück heights, and the Kondel Forest.
Prince Friedrich-Wilhelm of Prussia hiked to the towering rock head in 1818 and praised the unique view. At the prince's suggestion, a wooden tower was soon built. Since that time, the rock cone has been named "Prinzenkopf". In 1904, the Mosel Association constructed a stone tower with a glazed viewing platform.
In 1945, it was destroyed by ongoing bomb attacks on the Bullayer Bridge down to its foundations.
Since 1980, a wooden tower has stood at this location once again.
On 11.07.2009, the new Prinzenkopfturm was opened with a large celebration. The steel tower is 22 m high.
