The "Round Tower", the landmark of the town of Zell (Mosel), formed the upper tower of the former town fortifications.
The city fortification was demolished after the great fire in 1848, leaving only a few remnants, and the stones were used for building houses. However, the "Round Tower" and the "Square Tower" were preserved and served as emergency housing. The tower has a height of 14 meters and a diameter of six meters. Originally, as old pictures show, it had a high spire that was surrounded by four watch towers. Around 1690, the "Round Tower" received a curved cap that matches the spire of St. Peter's Church. Even today, the firing slits can still be clearly seen, through which the tower received the nickname "Powder Tower."
