The "Viereckige Turm" (square tower) is part of the old town fortifications and served as protection against troops from the Zeller Bachtal.
"Viereckiger Turm" (Square Tower)
The square tower is part of the old town wall and served as protection against soldiers attacking from Zell Bachtal. In the early modern times. it was also used as an “official prison” and in 1626 it was called “Bach Tower” or “Grey Tower”. In old townscape dating from 1576 and 1646 the angle towers and a steep roof can still be seen. With his six floors and the first floor he has a height of 22 meters. The inner tower still has two mighty oak beams across the threshold and four large windows. The present arched doorway was only made as an access to the cemetery in the 19th century.
