Cultural Cinema Kaimt-"NouvelleVague"

Biopic, drama, comedy

The emergence of Jean-Luc Godard's cult film "Breathless" (original title: "À bout de souffle") from the year 1960 represents a milestone in French film history. The young director Jean-Luc Godard (Guillaume Marbeck), who revolutionizes cinema with unconventional methods and creative freedom, makes the American actress Jean Seberg (Zoey Deutch) an icon of the Nouvelle Vague with her role as Patricia Franchini. Amid turbulent shooting, artistic conflicts, and a passionate atmosphere, the beginning of a new era of filmmaking is marked.

With "Nouvelle Vague," the exceptional director Richard Linklater ventures for the first time into a fully French-language project. The film was shot in black and white and in the 4:3 format to authentically capture the aesthetics of the early 1960s. Shooting took place in spring 2024 in Paris. Linklater, known for works like "Boyhood" and the "Before" trilogy, pays tribute to the influential French film movement, the Nouvelle Vague (French for New Wave), with this film while simultaneously reflecting on the emergence of a cinematic revolution.
