Blankenrath

The largest Hunsrück village in the Zeller Land

Blankenrath is located in the western Hunsrück not far from the Mosel and forms the Hunsrück area's centre in the Zeller Land holiday region. The most important building in the village is the Church of the Virgin Mary's Assumption, whose nave was built in 1761/1762. However, the oldest surviving witness to Blankenrath's history is the 33 m high Romanesque church tower. The parish is connected to the surrounding villages in a star shape by the "Kirchspiel-Wanderweg" (parish hiking trail). It offers numerous opportunities for short and extended hikes.

The Saar-Hunsrück Trail also passes by here. The Flaumbachtal pond on the village's eastern edge invites you to take a walk. Take a rest on one of the benches and watch the ducks cavorting on the pond. On the other side of the village, a farm track towards Hesweiler leads to the Lourdes Grotto, a place of prayer for locals and visitors from the surrounding area.
