Experience mighty rock walls, trass caves, primeval forest atmosphere in the Wolfsschlucht with a waterfall and bubbling springs along the path. Impressively alternating between dreamlike stream valleys and panoramic views.
Highlights on the Traumpfad:
Directly after starting at the parking lot by the K 57, the first panoramic view opens towards Pöntertal. Field paths lead through the wide fields with ever new views past gnarled fruit trees to the descent into the idyllic Krayerbachtal. Swaying reeds and lush hedges line the path down to the Krayermühle.
Watercourses accompany the hiker into the deeply incised Pönterbachtal. Soon the path leads steeply upwards to the Schützenhaus; shortly after, a detour to the viewpoint "Schweppenburgblick" is worthwhile. The further route is characterized by beautiful views of the volcanic landscape. Along a hillside, it goes steeply downward via the Hermann-Löns-Pfad to the Jägerheim guesthouse (closed). There the path passes under the mighty viaduct, runs over a meadow through man-height accessible trass caves. Trass walls and the remains of the Tönisstein monastery can be discovered at the path's edge before it goes into the Wolfsschlucht. Great rock formations, primeval forest atmosphere, bubbling springs in the streambed, and even a waterfall are offered. The path then continues along L 113 at the forest edge, slightly uphill, to the Römerquelle, from which CO2-containing water with a slight sulfur smell bubbles. The path swings into a quiet side valley past another bubbling spring and then to the left up a rising forest path onto a high plateau revealing the impressive "Siebengebirgsblick". Soon the starting point is reached.
In some sections surefootedness and freedom from dizziness are required. The path should not be walked on ice.
General safety instructions:
Safety instructions - safe hiking on the Traumpfade
Hikers want narrow paths, close-to-nature ways (over forest soil, grass paths or along streams) and rocky ascents leading to spectacular views. It is naturally understood that such paths must be walked with particular care.
What you should consider on your hike:
Difficulty classification:
Easy routes
... have only slight altitude differences and are mostly manageable in half a day distance-wise. They do not place special demands on condition and surefootedness. There are no sections requiring freedom from dizziness. Short, steeper sections may be possible. Depending on the path, some parts may be difficult to walk in wet weather.
Medium routes
... can be managed well with normal fitness. Path sections may require good surefootedness; therefore, sturdy footwear is important; hiking poles may be useful. Some somewhat longer and steeper ascents and descents are possible. Difficult (partly secured) sections are the absolute exception and can usually be avoided by detours. Natural sections may be difficult to traverse in wet weather.
Difficult routes
... require very good fitness and endurance due to length and/or altitude meters to be mastered. Very good surefootedness is also necessary to manage steep ascents and descents on partly demanding paths. Secured sections and/or simple climbing passages that require at least some freedom from dizziness are possible. Sturdy footwear and hiking poles are important. Paths and exposed sections are often difficult or impossible to walk during wet or winter conditions.
Sturdy footwear is recommended for the route!
