The approximately 6-kilometer long Route of Religions makes the significance of religions for the social, economic, and cultural life in the village clear to the interested hiker. The viewer is meant to recognize their own roots, develop understanding for the foreign, and tolerance. The Route of Religions combines the Celtic nature belief, the Roman imperial religion, the monotheistic Judaism, and the Christianity that emerged from it into a circular hiking route.
CLIMB UP, BREATHE DEEPLY, COME ALIVE — this is what a scientifically and theologically supported editorial team named this high-quality hiking and cultural route. (Start and welcome sign at the tourist information).
Over a year of preparation promises a high level of sensitivity for a particularly demanding topic: Route of Religions.
The hiker finds hints and descriptions on valuable glass panels, e.g., about Judaism in Ediger-Eller and the Mosel region, on topics such as religion and wine, religion and creation, religion and forest.
Along the route, the former synagogues, the future House of Psalms, the prominent St. Martin Church with Europe's richly decorated Gothic slate steeple and Germany's third oldest Way of the Cross up to the Cross Chapel with the famous stone relief "Christ in the Winepress" are opened up to him.
The hiker passes a room of silence and finds extraordinary resting benches in shady forest spots.
Down to the devotional path in the Pehr valley, he then reaches the Pehr house, a chapel dedicated to the veneration of Mary. The Maria Hermit Chapel on the Mosel bank then concludes the circular hiking route.
Special caution is required during and after rain or snowfall or ice. Walk carefully, wear good footwear, and avoid overestimating yourself and risky excursions.
Be sure to take enough provisions (especially mineral water). However, watch the weight of your backpack. Take breaks, carry a mobile phone with you (for emergencies), and avoid hiking when there is a risk of thunderstorms.
For the hike, sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are required.
In the CALMONT REGION, gastronomic establishments offer dishes with the Mosel Vineyard Peach on their menus.
