General information

Directions

To reach the Maunert Rock Path from Taben-Rodt, first follow the circular hiking trail No. 3: from the parking lot in the village center, opposite the Hotel-Restaurant “Rodter Eck,” you reach the Mariengrotto via the slightly ascending state road L133. From here, the path leads horizontally along the forest edge, past a sensory bench with a beautiful view of Taben-Rodt. Directly behind this sensory bench, you reach a path leading uphill towards the viewpoint “Weissenfels.” After a few steps on stairs, turn left at the fork to the “Weissenfels” viewpoint (360 m above NHN). The magnificent view over Taben-Rodt rewards the small effort. From “Weissenfels,” it is only a gentle winding ascent to the “Buchholz intersection.” Here you will find the marking (blue triangle) of the rock path, which leads to the right over the grass-covered path, then after a few meters forks right again.

The path leads over natural forest ground but also over rocky terrain up to the Bergspritze. The higher you climb, the older the self-regenerating tree stand becomes. In scattered, already dead or wind-broken tree trunks, woodpeckers and other birds find abundant food. The walker is repeatedly offered magnificent valley views to the left (Altfels, Kastel-Staadt) and right (Taben-Rodt) of the path.

At the 416 m high summit cross “Maunert” (erected in 1997 by the Taben-Rodt Traffic and Beautification Association e.V.), the magnificent panoramic view stretches both over Taben-Rodt and over Serrig, the Kastel Plateau, and the Saar Valley. On the south side, you can see the Saar flowing deep in the valley with the quarry and the village of Taben-Rodt; on the north side, the Saar and the wine-growing community of Serrig as well as farther away Saarburg and vineyards of the Saar wine region. In good weather, the foothills of the Eifel can be seen to the north with binoculars.

From here, the path continues as a “via ferrata” over the ridge of the Maunert. Scree slopes and rock edges require surefootedness and sturdy footwear. After leaving the rock ridge, the hiking trail continues along the mountain ridge before turning north. The path now leads down the mountain in switchbacks, past a hunting stand, to circular hiking trail No. 3. Continue to follow this circular hiking trail No. 3 downhill. At the end of the descent, a bench invites you to rest. Parallel, about 10 meters above the road, the shady return path to Taben-Rodt runs. After leaving the forest, follow the road (K128) to Taben-Rodt to the parking lot at the Hotel-Restaurant “Rodter Eck.”
