Historical architectural elements and a unique wine cultural landscape in the Zellerland.
The narrow Moselle loop with the Neefer Petersberg on the height belongs to the most scenic and impressive along the Moselle. Numerous monuments, such as the Petersberg chapel with the summit cemetery, the Eulenköpfchen, the Burgberg, the summit cross, the Neefer castle, and the Stuben monastery, testify to a long and eventful history. The historic vineyard site of Neefer Frauenberg with its old vines and dry stone walls, vineyard terraces, and rocks, shows a great diversity of flora and fauna. The ascent through the vineyards is rewarded at the summit cross with a fantastic panoramic view over the entire Moselle loop. This variety of historical architectural elements and the unique wine cultural landscape are so impressive that in 2019 they were declared a beacon by the initiative 'Living Moselle Vineyards'.
Start: Brunnenplatz on the Moselle riverbank, across the ferry street, the square at the "Boar" and the railway bridge to the vineyards "Rosenberg" and "Frauenberg". Continue via the summit cross to the Petersberg chapel and onwards to the former Roman hill fort Eulenköpfchen. Descend to the former Frankish settlement Rumpenheim on the Burgberg and through the forest over the parking lot on the Petersberg to the panoramic viewing bench, further through the Neefer Frauenberg and up the steps back through the village of Neef to the starting point at Brunnenplatz.
