The Shock Chapel: Final station before the gallows – a place full of history.
On L 202 between Mittelstrimmig and Blankenrath stands the Schockkapelle, which was built in the 18th century. A parallel path leads to the so-called Galgenflur.
The place recalls a time when the chapel was the last stop for the condemned before their execution. Here, they could pray one last time and say goodbye before embarking on their final journey to the gallows.
Today, the Schockkapelle is a quiet witness to this past time. Unremarkable at the wayside, it tells of the history of the region and reminds us of the people whose final journey once took them along these paths.
