Marienburg

The location of Marienburg is truly unique, as it is situated high atop the ridge, on a peninsula surrounded by the Moselle, on a narrow crest where the Moselle loop of Zeller Hamm narrows to less than 300 meters. From here, visitors are treated to a fantastic view of the charming wine towns of the Zeller Land (Alf, Neef, Bullay, Zell-Merl, Briedel, Pünderich, St. Aldegund) and the impressive, nearly 14 km long Moselle loop.

Due to its picturesque location, Marienburg is a place where one can particularly sustainably experience the scenic beauty of the Moselle region. Where the Marienburg stands today, there was already a castle more than 1000 years ago. In 1146, an Augustinian convent was founded at the same site. In the year 1515, this convent was dissolved and instead a fortification was built, which was destroyed by French auxiliary troops in 1650. During the Baroque period, the Marienburg was rebuilt; some wall remnants at the edge of the large parking lot come from the former "Marienburger Hof", which was reconstructed in the Middle Ages, and the late Gothic choir has been preserved. Thus, the Marienburg is not only a place of scenic beauty and historical significance but also a structure of art-historical interest that showcases three architectural styles: the manor house dates back to the 12th century, the late Gothic choir from the second half of the 15th century, and the elevated choir masonry with oval windows from the 18th century. Today, a guest and conference house, the Youth Education Center Marienburg, is located in the building. It offers space for celebrations, conferences, or simply for relaxing.
