Paris in the 1970s: The opera singer Maria Callas (Angelina Jolie) has retreated after glorious days on the opera stages of the world and lives with her partner Aristotle Onassis (Haluk Bilginer). While she still travels around the world to teach a master class at Juilliard in New York here and there, her vocal qualities have declined rapidly in recent years. The scandals surrounding her estranged husband Giovanni Battista Meneghini (Alessandro Bressanello) also take their toll. Together with tenor Giuseppe Di Stefano (Pierfrancesco Favino), she gives a series of concerts in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Although the audience still adores her, the end of her career is imminent. Her sister Jackie (Valeria Golino) is also not oblivious to this.
