Winding paths, natural brook valleys, and three via ferratas integrated into the path (which can be bypassed) at lofty heights promise hiking enjoyment at the highest level. Added to this are magnificent views into the Hunsrück and the Moselle valley reaching far into the Eifel. Furthermore, the path runs past old slate tunnels, slate spoil heaps, as well as reconstructed houses of the former slate tunnel workers.
Above the starting point lies the Schock Chapel, also called the Poor Sinner's Chapel by locals. In front of the chapel, a slate board shows viewpoints far into the Eifel. Soon it goes downhill on earthy, winding forest paths to the Mörsdorfer Brook.
Behind the Pulgermühle, the path begins through the Flaumbach valley across open meadow landscapes along the forest edge.
After crossing the Flaumbach, three via ferratas follow: the Burgberg via ferrata, the Schinnkaul via ferrata, and the Höhlenschlucht via ferrata. Those who do not want to take on the challenges of the via ferratas can use the marked bypass. The bypass and via ferrata reunite after a few minutes.
Subsequently, the path runs through extensive forest area past old slate tunnels, slate spoil heaps, and partly reconstructed houses of former slate tunnel workers. On a sensory bench, you can recover from the long ascent out of the Flaumbach valley and enjoy wide panoramic views into the Eifel.
The path was rated with 90 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
From the parking lot, we follow the signs for the access path to the Traumschleife out of the village and reach the Portal Mittelstrimmig. From here, we walk about 300m on an asphalted path, passing a tree educational trail, which can be instructive not only for younger hikers. After enjoying the beautiful view at the "Schock Chapel", we carefully cross the L200 and enter the Schock Forest. Here, the path passes a covered hut with barbecue facilities. The hike now leads us onto open terrain. From this elevated spot, we enjoy the beautiful panoramic view over the valley. Continuing, we keep left for about 1200m downhill over natural field paths and a narrow trail until we reach the Portal Altstrimmig. There we find another covered hut with barbecue facilities. On a narrow winding path through quiet forest along a small brook, we walk about 500m downhill to the "Bildbach". We keep left and hike about 1300m to the Mörsdorfer Bachtal. Here, we turn left once more and follow the so-called "Valley Edge Path" along the "Mörsdorfer Brook" and come upon the first resting benches. After about 2000m, we reach the first sensory bench where we can enjoy the tranquility of the valley and the sound of the brook. Anyone interested can also engage with geology a little further under a covered seating area. Loaded with much information, we continue through partly open valley, passing the Birkmühle. Shortly before reaching the Pulgermühle, we turn left and follow the path about 50m uphill to the road, which we cross carefully. After another 500m forest path, we enter the Flaumbachtal and hike about 900m through partly open valley until we reach the "Flaumbach". We keep left and sneak along a narrow path about 300m almost running in the water past the Flaumbach, until we cross the Flaumbach over an impressive bridge. Continuing through the quiet valley, after about 200m, we approach the first via ferrata of our Traumschleife. The possible bypass leads further through the valley to the "Sheep Bridge". Everyone who is not afraid of the via ferrata will be rewarded at the top with a magnificent view over the Flaumbachtal. After descending on the other side of the "Burgberg", the climbers also reach the "Sheep Bridge". Now we dive into the forest and hike on the historic Celtic Path about 300m uphill until we reach a waysign cross. Here begins the entry to the second via ferrata of the route. Through young mixed forest, we make our way about 300m along a narrow path to the foot of the small Kanzel, where it then goes uphill on iron steps embedded in the rock. It is also possible to bypass this climb. Once at the top, we enjoy another beautiful view. Refreshed, we now go slowly uphill about 100m further until we turn right onto a path. On soft, leaf-covered forest paths, we hike another 300m uphill to reach the large Kanzel. Another sensory bench, several resting benches, and a hut invite you to linger. Everyone should enjoy the view over the Flaumbachtal once more here. After this break, the path leads over narrow trails to the third via ferrata, which goes down a ladder to the old slate tunnels; naturally, this climb can also be bypassed. After the slate tunnels, which served as refuges during World War II, the path rises slightly and passes a wetland biotope. After crossing the main road, we reach the Portal Liesenich via a path. Here as well, a sensory bench invites us to rest. Without effort, the last part of the hike goes on quiet field paths, past a fish pond, back to the starting point at Portal Mittelstrimmig.
All Traumschleifen have partly steep, difficult, and slippery sections in wet or winter weather. Therefore, hiking boots, surefootedness, and good fitness are absolute prerequisites for hiking these premium circular trails.
In icy and snowy conditions, this Traumschleife is not passable.
Three climbing sections require a head for heights. These via ferratas can also be bypassed.
Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) is highly recommended.
