Past the highlights of the Sayn Cultural Park: Castle, Schloss, and Sayn Abbey, the path leads on winding trails into the Brexbach valley and over the Pulverberg with breathtaking views: cultural and natural enjoyment at its finest.
Highlights on the Traumpfädchen
The loop through the Sayn Cultural Park begins at the parking lot on Koblenz-Olper-Straße 167. After the footbridge over the Saynbach, you reach the start of the "Sayner Aussichten," which is best completed clockwise. The distinctive logos lead left to the nearby "Schloss" parking lot, where you cross the L 306. On the other side, the path winds uphill on a trail and ascends the castle hill via the Saynsteig and Rheinsteig. At the end of this first challenge, there is a great view from Sayn Castle into the valley and over the Neuwied Basin.
After descending from the castle, the Traumpfädchen turns right into the rustic forest and descends noticeably. After another change of direction, the path steadily climbs to the nearby Oskarhöhe. The shelter there offers a place to rest and a beautiful valley view.
Next, surefootedness is required as the path winds down into the Brexbach valley in tight switchbacks. There, it passes wide meadows to the towering viaduct of the Brexbachtalbahn. Hardly having passed this, a footbridge crosses the rushing Brexbach, and it becomes strenuous! The Pulverberg is stormed in tight loops, so you arrive somewhat out of breath at a cross-path, but benches invite you to take a break.
While the Traumpfad and Rheinsteig continue to climb uphill, the Traumpfädchen now offers relaxed forest hiking. Passing the stone shelter of Emma-Höhe, the descent into the valley proceeds comfortably, but suddenly cheering is heard. Shortly afterward, the reason becomes clear: the route goes right through the Sayn climbing forest, where daredevils swing through the treetops.
The Traumpfädchen stays grounded and crosses the track of the Brexbachtalbahn before a forest lounger offers a box-seat view of the venerable abbey church. Shortly after, the path passes the noteworthy church with cloister and leads along the edge of the parking lot to a footbridge over the Mühlenbach. You also pass the adjacent Heins Mill before following a narrow path beside the water into a residential area and to Schlossstraße. At the princely castle, you cross the street and, after a pleasant loop through the castle park past the Garden of the Butterflies, the route ends after 6.1 km back at the parking lot.
