General information

Directions

The generous parking lot at the portal of the Moselle Dream pathlet is located directly by the  L125. Clockwise direction is recommended for this hike due to a steep climb.

Simply walk across the parking lot towards the valley and you will reach the busily gurgling Weilsbornquelle spring after these first steps already. Then you cross through the small forest on paths leading past private gardens to a paved way. You continue on this in the same direction, your route lined by ancient vineyard walls, paying instinctive respect to the builders of these dry walls for the longevity of their constructions.

After another short passage, you ultimately reach a paved road and walk briefly uphill, before being able to change to a virtually untouched vineyard path. This continues at more or less the same altitude for a while, but then goes noticeably downhill.

The bench and “Vogelsang“ viewpoint are where the taxing part of the hike starts: with the access routes to the Rheinburgenweg and Moselsteig hikes, you need to master the steep hill up to the Domgarten shelter on narrow serpentines that call for a little stamina and surefootedness. Once up at the top, the effort is soon forgotten, however, as you enjoy the breath-takingly beautiful view from one of the benches, or from inside the shelter.

Next comes a pleasant ramble as the dream pathlet passes between meadows and the edge of the slope along with the Moselsteig and Rheinburgenweg hikes. Beautiful vistas open up again and again as copses keep changing the scenery. The view into the valley is most spectacular from another bench in a wonderful grass trail passage.

The hike then markedly descends as a depression needs to be crossed, which is where the Rheinburgenweg trail bows out. Still accompanied by the Moselsteig hike, the dream pathlet now goes slightly uphill again before returning to the L 125 across open land. Which is where this attractive round tour near Winningen comes full circle at the parking lot by the Weilsbornquelle spring.

Safety Guidelines

Safety guidance – stay safe whilst hiking on the Traumpfade/Traumpfädchen

Hikers like narrow pathways, unspoilt natural trails (leading over the forest floor, across the grass or alongside streams) and rocky climbs which lead to spectacular views. It goes without saying that particular care should be exercised when taking such routes.

Things to bear in mind when preparing for your hike

  • Wear proper clothing that is appropriate to the weather conditions and that will protect you against the cold and the wet or the heat and the sun.
  • Schedule suitable breaks during your hike and make sure that you conserve energy.
  • Take sufficient liquids with you. Establishments selling refreshments are not available everywhere.
  • When hiking on the Traumpfade, please wear appropriate hiking boots which provide a sufficient foothold on slippery, steep, rocky and uneven paths.
  • If you do not feel that you are able to negotiate certain parts of the route, then you should avoid such sections or else turn back. Natural pathways may become muddy and treacherous, especially in unfavourable weather.
  • In autumn in particular, please remember that leaves lying on the ground may be concealing bumps, routes, stones or holes in the path.
  • You will need to expect route impairments of this kind if you are intending to undertake a hike.
  • Before setting out, visit https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ in order to find out whether the route you intend to hike is closed or whether diversions are in place. Construction works, timber felling or other disruptions may also be planned.
  • Recommended hiking season: April to October
