The Moselle metropolis of Cochem offers hikers several circular routes and walks to get to know the medieval town below the imperial castle.
One route passes over the Pinnerkreuz (footpath below the chairlift and above the train station) - named after the shepherd Pinn who fell there while searching for a lost lamb. Another route goes through Bernstraße to the marketplace, up Schlossstraße to the imperial castle. From there, it goes down a path to the right with wonderful views - past the Peterskapelle (St. Rochus plague chapel) through the Martinstor (part of the former city wall) back through the town center.
Extra caution is required during and after rain, snowfall, or ice. Walk carefully, wear good footwear, and avoid overestimating yourself and risky excursions.
Be sure to take enough provisions (especially mineral water). However, pay attention to the weight of your backpack. Take breaks, carry a mobile phone with you (for emergencies), and avoid hikes if there is a risk of thunderstorms.
Good footwear and weatherproof clothing are required for the hike.
For the route to the Pinnerkreuz viewpoint, the chairlift can also be used: http://www.cochemer-sesselbahn.de/cms/
The A48 motorway (Koblenz–Trier) is the best connection to Cochem. Please use the Kaisersesch exit and drive towards Cochem.
Coming from the north, take the A3 or A61 towards Koblenz, then continue on the A48 towards Trier.
Guests from the Rhine-Main area also travel via the A3 (towards Cologne).
