Relaxed route, ideal for people who want to take it easy on their hiking vacation or have little time.

The wine village Minheim is located on a sun-drenched peninsula on the Mosel—this location gives this hike its name.

Insights into the hiking route:

The hike leads over narrow paths through the vineyard. Sights along the route include the striking Pest Chapel, the Burglay rock, and the old Eichhaus. Furthermore, from the Staustufenblick and after a small detour to the Moselloreley viewpoint, there are beautiful views of the Mosel valley. The first section of the hike to the Pest Chapel runs along the wine teaching path. This path offers a lot of information. Here you can learn about viticulture, grape harvesting, vine training, regional geology, and much more.

There are dining options in the Mosel village Minheim. Also, along the route, there are always cozy benches inviting you to take a rest.

General information

Directions

From the parking lot at the church (or at the "Old Ferry Head" directly on the Mosel), where you can park your car, the hike starts on the Sonneninsel circular route, clockwise. Right next door on Weinbergstraße, you turn off to climb to higher village streets and into the vineyards. You go uphill along the wine teaching path to the Pest Chapel. On the left, you look towards the Mosel and the Piesport districts Reinsport and Niederemmel. Almost at the height, it continues below the Moselloreley (those interested can take a detour to the viewpoint) parallel to the Gleithang. You cross the district road K 52 and head towards the Burglay rock. In ancient times, there was a Roman defense post here. The hike continues through vineyards to the "Staustufenblick". From here, you can wonderfully observe the lockage of the Mosel ships. Then you leisurely walk downhill back to Minheim. In the village, you pass another sight, the old Eichhaus. Elector Jacob III of Eltz introduced the "Eich" on the Mosel in 1567: the standard for wine and all other goods that were measured and sold using wine measures.
