A brief visit to the Moseleifel region - along the course of the river through meadow valleys and places steeped in history.

The river Salm winds from the Himmerod Abbey to its confluence into the Moselle near Klüsserath, exclusively through the Moseleifel region. The Salm Cycle Trail connects the Maare-Moselle Cycle Trail in Wittlich and the Moselle Cycle Trail in Klüsserath. It runs through the geological formation “Wittlicher Senke” and includes sections of the Wittlicher Senke Cycle Trail. It continues to follow the Salm Valley up to Klüsserath, past fields and meadows, and from Rivenich, it runs through the vineyards of the Moselle region. As a route that embraces rural culture it includes the castle in Dreis, churches and mills well worth seeing, farmhouses in the style of Trier “house block” and other regional characteristics such as e.g. wineries in the wine region.

Places of interest along the route:

  • Dreis: The Baroque church of St. Martin
  • Dreis: Dreis Castle
  • Salmtal: Salm mill, Dörbach village
