The leg is easy due to the length and limited number of inclines.
After crossing the B50, the leg goes to a great viewpoint with a view of the Idarkopf and surrounding area. Passing an old Jewish cemetery, you go through a wood to the geographic centre of Rhineland-Palatinate with the opportunity to take a break. After a lovely section in the wood we cross the L193. On the other side, the route goes on to a plateau that offers an outstanding panoramic view across all of Hunsrück, down into the Mosel Valley. At another viewpoint we can see the runway at Hahn Airport and if lucky will also see a few planes land in front of our eyes. The route then disappears into a quiet, quaint stream valley with very beautiful woods. After a short incline we reach the destination of Altlay.

Sure-footedness and a good level of fitness are essential prerequisites for walking this premium long-distance hiking trail.
Equipment
The Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that is on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.
