Ideal for mountain bike or pedelec: over 23 km it goes from the Sternfeld barbecue hut via the Hohe Wurzel towards Hinzert & Reinsfeld and back.

This route proposal leads right through the Osburg High Forest. The start and end point is the barbecue hut in Sternfeld near Farschweiler. Nearby are the dream loop "Roman-Celtic Trail" and the themed educational trail "Forest Thistle Trail". After the climb to the Hohe Wurzel, we reach the forest near Hinzert, where, near the memorial site SS special camp/concentration camp Hinzert, "Sites of Inhumanity" are marked, among other things, with information panels. The path then leads to the memorial itself, which can be visited free of charge during opening hours. Between Hinzert and Reinsfeld the route follows the connecting cycle path to the Ruwer-High Forest cycle path. In Reinsfeld, it then goes back into the forest and along the Marked Tree – the boundary between Osburg and Reinsfeld districts, the Old Pond, Pioneer Pond and Misselbach back to Farschweiler.

General information

Directions

From Farschweiler it goes along the old Roman road to the junction 3 Marken at km 2.6. Here the path continues straight ahead on the hiking trail SU2 (Sites of Inhumanity 2) through the Osburg state forest. After 3.9 km we turn right and continue on SU2 to the memorial site SS special camp / concentration camp Hinzert. Via the access cycle path it goes to the Ruwer-High Forest cycle path and then into the town center of Reinsfeld. We leave the town towards the sports facility to the north, meet the hiking trail GR (Great Circular Route) and at km 15.8 arrive at the Marked Tree, the boundary between Reinsfeld and Osburg. From there it continues on the OS1 along the Old Pond until km 17.6. Here we turn right onto the RuT5 and continue along the Pioneer Pond on this path to the Sternfeld forester’s lodge. After crossing the state road we reach the starting point at the barbecue hut in Farschweiler.
