Insights into the route:
Views, views, views!
This best describes the newest cycling route in the portfolio of the Bernkastel-Kues cycling region. For example, the famous pilgrimage church in Klausen - a gem like no other. Or the oldest wine village on the Mosel, Neumagen-Dhron, famous not only for its wines but also its Roman heritage. How about a boat trip on the Roman wine ship "Stella Noviomagi"? And if you’re seeking something higher up, you will also be rewarded. The cycle path passes a launch site for hang gliders - though cycling is simply nicer…!
The "Mosel Cycling Route to Amaze" starts in the wine village of Lieser. From here, it goes through the ancient valley, through which the Mosel once flowed more than 10,000 years ago, heading towards Maring-Noviand. The path is lined with green meadows and forests. Up in the vineyards, you can see the Paulskirche, one of the oldest churches in the region. On your journey through the ancient valley, you first reach the district of Maring and continue to the Siebenborn monastery courtyard. This is perfect for a short break with refreshments. It continues through the Noviand district with the parish church of St. Lambertus. Over the ridge of Brauneberg, you then reach Osann-Monzel. Along the edge of the town of Monzel, you have a magnificent view of the Mosel valley and the community of Kesten. You pass through the Monzel district and cycle past forest, meadows, and vineyards towards Klausen. Here, a detour to the famous pilgrimage church "Maria Heimsuchung" is worthwhile. It is visited by over 100,000 pilgrims every year. Afterwards, you continue through the forest until you encounter more vineyards. You circle the ridge and emerge above the wine village of Neumagen-Dhron at the launch site for hang gliders. From here, a fantastic panoramic view of the Mosel valley opens up. Would you like to enjoy even more views? Then a detour to the viewpoint "Great Mosel View" is recommended. You continue on the Mosel panorama road above the vineyards and will be accompanied for some time by a wonderful view of the Mosel valley. You will see the beautiful Mosel loop with the famous Moselloreley and the various districts of the community of Piesport. Then you turn left back into the vineyards and cycle over vineyard paths towards Kesten. Past the Mosel community, it goes uphill and then along Brauneberg back to the starting point in Lieser.
