Three valleys in a short distance - Wide views over the Maifeld - Fertile landscape

After starting at the Mosel, a narrow road leads through the Schrumpftal, accompanied by a small stream that leisurely winds through the forested valley. Along the way, you'll pass old mills with small meadow clearings. The detour from Pillig into the Elzbachtal offers a "wild" contrast. A short, very steep section leads to the waterfall at the Pyrmonter Mill, a popular excursion destination. The special feature of this route is the connection from the valleys to the wide expanse of the Maifeld. While riding over the gently rolling hills of the Eifel, the collegiate church of Münstermaifeld forms an impressive landmark. A sightseeing break should definitely be planned here; the bike route runs directly through the old town of Münstermaifeld. Smaller villages such as Mörz, Metternich, or Pillig also invite a relaxed break.

Impressions

General information

Directions
  • Hatzenport to Münstermaifeld: Continuous ascent through the Schrumpftal, mills on both sides, route on the road, first forest, then some meadows and pastures, and just before Münstermaifeld the wide expanse of the Maifeld begins. Münstermaifeld with old town and dining options.
  • Münstermaifeld to Pillig: The route goes back and forth over Münsterplatz. After Münstermaifeld there is a short section of the Maifeld cycle path, between Naunheim and Pillig the route is on the state road.
  • Detour Pillig to Pyrmonter Mill: Just behind Pillig, it goes into the Elzbachtal, very steep but short (preferably push the bike downhill as well). The waterfall, the Pyrmonter Mill with gastronomy and accommodation options. The view of the castle is very worthwhile. The way back is steep but pushing the bike pleasantly only takes about 7 minutes.
  • Pillig to Münstermaifeld: Via Sevenich, through the middle of agricultural areas. Here you can especially experience the wide expanse of the Maifeld, depending on the season the rapeseed bloom. Münstermaifeld is always in view.
  • Münstermaifeld to Hatzenport: Once you reach Münsterplatz again, it is all downhill. Behind Münstermaifeld, views of the Mosel heights. Mörz artist village with dining options.
