Canoe route through the Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve.
During a canoe trip on the Saar with Kanu SaarFari, you will discover the scenic beauty of the Saar Valley in a completely new way. The most beautiful section is the Wiltinger Saarbogen between Schoden and the Kanzem lock, because here the Saar is nearly untouched and has also been placed under nature protection. The special feature is lively rapids that really add momentum to the canoe trip. A unique landscape experience: river bars, water lily fields, reeds and rushes and other river floodplains with willows and ashes. This unregulated river section offers especially much paddling fun due to its light rapids.
The German Canoe Federation (Bundesverband Kanu e.V.) has certified the Saar from the Serrig barrage (km 18) to the Saar mouth in Konz (km 0) as an official canoe waterway.
Canoe trip without a guide from Schoden through the Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve to Kanzem.
Difficulty level: medium flow speed, not a shipping route.
Between Schoden and the Kanzem lock, the Saar is almost untouched. The Wiltinger Saarbogen, which is under nature protection, adds real momentum to the canoe trip with its lively rapids. The landscape experience is unique, as you pass river bars, water lily fields, reed and rush beds and, with a bit of luck, can even observe kingfishers.

Preserve and protect nature!
- As canoeists, we love nature, want to protect and preserve it, and set an example for others.
- To avoid trampling damage, we only start and stop at specially designated entry and exit points.
- We do not paddle with our boat into reed belts, rush beds, or pond and water lily areas so that the plants are not destroyed.
- To avoid disturbing water birds and other river inhabitants, we keep a respectful distance from the animals, stay clear of nesting sites and retreat areas, and keep as quiet as possible.
- We ensure that no plastic bottles or other rubbish fall into the river.
- For species protection reasons, pets are not allowed in the boat within the nature reserve.
What should be observed?
- The Saar is a major shipping route, and absolute prohibition of drugs and alcohol applies here, just like in road traffic!
- For their own safety, participants in a canoe trip should be able to swim. Children under 12 should gain their first paddling experiences accompanied by adults.
- Our life jackets are very comfortable and do not hinder paddling. They provide buoyancy in case of capsizing and protect against cold and injury. Even very good swimmers wear a life jacket with us.
- Large shipping always has right of way. To avoid being surprised by a large push convoy, canoeists always paddle on the edge of the main river.
- Forbidden and life-threatening areas, such as in front of dams, are marked with a red-white-red sign. These areas must be circumvented on a wide berth.
What to bring?
- Headgear, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Rain protection depending on weather
- Sporty clothing and shoes that can get wet
- Change of clothes
- At least 1 litre of drinking water per person
- 1 identity card per group
