 Insights into the hiking tour:

Narrow paths, a panoramic view and vineyards. The Maria-Zill-Panoramaweg offers a fascinating natural and cultural landscape on  six kilometres. A basic condition is required, as you have to climb over 300 metres from the Moselle to the point "Maria Zill". You walk uphill through the Kallenfels-valley - it's a crisp climb. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the Moselle valley to Zeltingen-Rachtig and Bernkastel-Kues. There are many benches here - ideal for a rest. Back to Bernkastel-Kues you go through the vineyards. It is the best to buy food in Bernkastel-Kues and take a break on the way. On the way back, you can also pass by a restaurant.

General information

Directions

From the starting point at the Tourist Information you walk through the city and across the historic market square with its centuries-old half-timbered houses. Then you walk along the "Römerstraße" to the corner of "Burgstraße/Hinterm Graben". Here, at the beginning of the Kallenfels-valley, the route climbs steeply. First on cobblestones, after approx. 100 metres on a narrow path. The valley lies in the shade of the "Kallenfelsbach" (small river).  After about 20 minutes you will reach a small wooden bridge, then turn left and continue uphill on a wide forest path.  After about 15 minutes the path narrows and the forest thins out. Now you have a wonderful view of the Moselle valley from "Maria-Zill".  A rest on the numerous benches is a must do. If the weather is bad, a shelter 100 metres further on offers shelter. Then go downhill. At a crossroads the path leads you to the excursion restaurant "Weinschenke mit Herz"  and on vineyard paths, partly asphalted, partly cobbled, back to Bernkastel-Kues. You return to the starting point through the "Graacher Tor", the only remaining town gate from the Middle Ages (today it serves as a museum of local history).

Safety Guidelines
