Lieser Trail loop around Wittlich (W11). Relaxed, approximately 11 km long hike around Wittlich over parts of the Lieser Trail in a relaxing forest atmosphere with the opportunity to stop at the charming beer garden of the Alte Pleiner Mühle.
The circular hike is marked with the trail logo (W11) and starts at the market square in Wittlich at the tourist information. Via the square at the Lieser and Lieser bridge, you go on the right-hand side with the Lieser Trail and Eifelsteig experience loop "Mills on Lieser & Salm" out of the city. Soon, a soft forest path accompanies the Lieser for about 4 km with beautiful views of the Abachs- and Bohlensmühle to the guesthouse "Alte Pleiner Mühle," which is reached via the suspension bridge "Pleinerley." At the beer garden overlooking the river, it is recommended to take a break halfway. From ice coffee to crispy Flieten to refreshing Viezcola – fair prices and friendly service complete the relaxed hiking experience. Through the gateway of the mill, it continues along the access road to the K 21, which must be crossed carefully. A few meters further, the circular route turns right onto a meadow path and leads past the Landhaus Huwer, beside the district road, back into the city.
The circular hike starts at the historic market square in Wittlich at the tourist information and leaves the town always accompanied by the Lieser through the city park and along the Wittlich vineyards. Along the way, three old mills line the path - the Brückenmühle, Hasen- and Bastenmühle are passed before a soft forest path leads the next 4 km with beautiful views of the Abachs- and Bohlensmühle to the Alte Pleiner Mühle. Here, the Lieser is crossed over the new, impressive suspension bridge, and through the mill’s gateway the path initially continues along the paved access road until it carefully crosses the K 21. A few meters further, the circular route turns right onto a meadow path and leads past the Landhaus Huwer and beside the district road from Wittlich to Plein, returning to the town.
The path down from the forest to the mill is partly very steep and can be slippery. We recommend hiking poles and sturdy footwear!
For hiking with children, we recommend bringing a change of clothes, towels, and water shoes.
The hike along the Lieser Trail through the forest to the Alte Pleiner Mühle and back along the same route is perfect for a family outing. Don't forget a change of clothes and water shoes; children love to play in and at the Lieser.
