Donkey hiking is more than "just" hiking – the focus is on the experience with the animals. Enjoy the Mannebachtal, Roman temple complex and Roman street settlement Vicus Tawern.

The meeting point for this special hike is the pasture of the two donkeys in Schulstraße in Mannebach.

Before setting off, the donkeys are lovingly prepared: brushing their coats, cleaning their hooves, saddling, and loading. Then you start your route to a very special destination – the Roman temple complex on the Metzenberg near Tawern. This freely accessible site comprises excavations of seven temple buildings, two of which are fully reconstructed. At this historic place, a traveler from Rome once saw his destination for the first time, the imperial city Trier.

After a long rest, you walk downhill to the Roman street settlement (Vicus), the origin of today's Tawern. There, you can admire an accurate 1:75 scale model in a pavilion. The return walk leads you past the Talbachhütte and leisurely through the idyllic Mannebachtal back to your starting point.
