Our Rheinland-Pfalz testers explored the Moselle for 4 days. Feel free to follow the route!
Discover the Moselle from Trier to Koblenz on a 4-day journey. In 2021, three “Rheinland-Pfalz testers” from the Netherlands, Belgium, and France were able to undertake this trip and reported on it.
You can now experience this trip yourself using this route description. You will visit the following highlights:
Experience cultural highlights such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Trier, enjoy the world-famous wines in the towns along the Moselle, and experience breathtaking nature in the vineyards along the winding Moselle and the Geierlay in the Hunsrück!
Follow the course of the Moselle on the federal roads B53, B49, and B416 from Trier to Koblenz and stop as you like in the (wine) towns along the Moselle valley. For the excursion to the Geierlay suspension bridge, follow the L202/L204 from Treis-Karden.
The roads along the Moselle are often winding. Watch the traffic and enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace!
Don't forget your camera and smartphone. Along the Moselle and at the Geierlay, there are many worthwhile selfie spots! For the excursion to the Geierlay, we also recommend hiking shoes!
Don't miss visiting the historic old town of Trier at the start of the trip. The Porta Nigra is a recommended starting point.
Trier can be reached via the A48 and A1, and at the end point Koblenz there are connections to the motorways A48 and A61.
Approximate travel times to Trier:
2 h drive from Cologne (via A1)
2 h 30 drive from Frankfurt am Main (via A61, B50 (Hochmosel Bridge), A1)
3 h 10 drive from Stuttgart (via A6 / A1)
4 h drive from Basel (via A5/A1)
In many towns along the route, there are public parking spaces, which are signposted locally.
By train to Trier, timetable information at www.bahn.de
The trip can (with restrictions) also be made entirely by public transport; regional trains and (leisure) bus lines run along the Moselle. Traveling by bike is also good here; using the Moselle cycle path is recommended: www.moselradweg.de
