Relaxed bike route on the German and Luxembourg Moselle bike routes. Enjoy European flair at the tri-border area Germany-France-Luxembourg.
Get to know the landscape of the Upper Moselle from Konz to Schengen (L)!
Numerous sights and idyllic wine villages await you on this bike route:
- In Oberbillig (D) you should cross the Moselle with the ferry "Sankta Maria II" to Wasserbillig (L).
- In Schengen (L), the European monument commemorates the historic signing of the Schengen Agreement.
- In Nennig you will find the best-preserved Roman mosaic floor of a Roman villa north of the Alps.
- Nittel is considered the largest wine village of the Upper Moselle - modern wine taverns invite you to linger and enjoy.
Along the way, follow the signage of the Moselle bike route.
At the tourist information in Konz, Saarstr. 1, cross the Saar bridge. Directly behind the bridge, turn left and cycle on the bike path to the river mouth. On the Moselle bike route, you pass Wasserliesch, the "Gateway to the Upper Moselle", and reach Oberbillig. Take the ferry "Sankta Maria II" across to the Luxembourg Moselle bank (current ferry times at www.twitter.com or by phone 0172 3156126). From Wasserbillig, you reach Mertert via the riverside promenade. Here, turn left onto the "N1" towards Grevenmacher.
In the winding old town of Grevenmacher (remains of the medieval fortification, exotic butterfly garden) you will find an opportunity to rest. On the Luxembourg "Waistroos - route du vin" it goes via Machtum, Ahn, and Wormeldange to Ehnen. The route leads to Stadtbredimus, Remich, and Bech-Kleinmacher. Through the wine-growing villages of Schwebsange, Wintrange, and Remerschen, you reach Schengen. This is where the Schengen Agreement was signed.
Across the bridge, cycle on the German Moselle side to Perl. At the bridge, get on the Moselle bike route and follow it to Nennig. Continuing along the Moselle bike route, you reach the wine villages of Palzem, Wehr, Rehlingen, and Nittel. Via Wellen, Oberbillig, and Wasserliesch, the route returns to the starting point in Konz.
You can find e-bike charging stations along the route in: Konz (at the main station), Wincheringen (at the market), Nittel (at the village square), Oberbillig (at the ferry quay).
