On the circular hiking route along the upper edge of the vineyards "Schweicher Annaberg" and "Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg," the hiker is rewarded with many magnificent views of the Mosel wine landscape.

The route is 9.2 km long and classified as easy to moderate. With breaks you should plan 3-4 hours. The path runs along the upper edge of the vineyards “Schweicher Annaberg” and “Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg” in the first section before a longer descent over the Mosel village Longen leads to an idyllically designed resting place above the Longen bridge. From here the hiker can refreshed tackle the last section of the Moselblick route through the vineyard landscape back to the start and finish point. Throughout the route, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Mosel landscape near Longuich, Kirsch, and Riol.

The Mosel region is not only famous for its wine. Its unique river landscape, picturesque villages and towns as well as a two-thousand-year history make the Mosel region an enchanting holiday destination & attractions and sights beckon along both sides of the Mosel and in the side valleys. The Mosel originates in the French Vosges and flows after 545 km at Koblenz into the Rhine. The distance between source and mouth is only 278 km, clearly showing the strong meandering of the river. Thanks to the sheltered valley location between Eifel and Hunsrück, the Mosel is one of the mildest climate zones in Germany.

In lively loops, the Mosel flows towards the Rhine; behind every bend, there is a new, surprising view of vineyards and picturesque wine villages. The steep vineyards with their artfully arranged terraces are ubiquitous and together with the gentle valleys, sandstone, and slate form this unique cultural and wine landscape. In Germany’s fourth-largest wine-growing area, Riesling is cultivated on three-quarters of the vineyard area, the queen of grapes. Thus, the Mosel region represents the world’s largest closed Riesling cultivation area.

The circular route is signed with “R4”.

New: Hiking map 1 : 25,000 Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route

ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.

Schweich (Mosel). With the latest MOSEL hiking map titled “Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route,” the Eifelverein supplements its series of hiking maps on the Mosel with now the fourth hiking map at a scale of
1 : 25,000. This hiking map series, which the Eifelverein publishes in collaboration with Moselland Tourism and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein’s map collection after the completion of all MOSEL hiking maps with the Mosel run in the southeast.

The new hiking map replaces, with slightly modified sheet cuts, the previously issued and now outdated hiking map “Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Route” from the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. With the new hiking map, hikers will be reliably guided on the hiking routes in the holiday region Schweich along the Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrücksteig, side trails, and dream loops. The hiking area Meulenwald is also shown on the map.

Both the Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, awarded as "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail," lead through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route. Not only with the attached circular hiking routes named “side trail” and “dream loop” does the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route form an extensive and varied network of hiking trails. This network is supplemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner routes, the Mosel Heights Trail, other main hiking trails of the Eifelverein, and numerous regional hiking trails also included on the new hiking map. Selected cycling tours and five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Route are also depicted on the map.

Despite the comprehensive hiking and leisure offerings shown on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the five side trails “Longuicher Sauerbrunnen,” “Zitronenkrämerkreuz,” “Mehringer Schweiz,” “Klüsserather Sagenweg,” and “Moselachter” form the core of this new hiking map. The four Moselsteig stages and the five side trails are described bilingually in the inner part of the hiking map and include an elevation profile with information about the difficulty level of the hikes.

The map basis for this detailed hiking map is the official topographic map 1 : 25,000 of the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform price of 7.90 EUR and is available at the Tourist Information Roman Wine Route, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Moselland Tourism, at bookstores, and naturally also at the Eifelverein e. V., Stürtzstraße 2 - 6 in 52349 Düren. The map can also be ordered round the clock online via the internet at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
