A varied route that, as the name suggests, often leads along the Riesling vineyards. But other agricultural areas such as traditional orchards and pastures also shape the landscape on the Mosel ridge.
From Trittenheim, the Riesling hiking trail leads over the wine teaching path to the Laurentius Chapel and then up to the height of the millennia-old Trittenheimer Hinkelstein (menhir). Pastures and orchards are passed on the way to the forest chapel. For a while, the path goes uphill again until you have a free view of the Eifel heights.
Downhill, you walk to Schneidershof (with a place to eat) and then to the shooting house of Neumagen-Dhron. A narrow path soon leads up to the "little tower." There you can enjoy the view of Neumagen-Dhron, the "oldest wine village in Germany." Halfway up, the path goes through forest and vineyards back to Trittenheim, mostly with the Mosel in view.
Sturdy shoes and provisions.
Off the path on the Mosel ridge, small ponds and biotopes can be found in former gravel pits.

New: Hiking map 1 : 25 000 Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route
ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
Schweich (Mosel). With the latest MOSEL hiking map titled "Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route," the Eifelverein supplements its series of hiking maps on the Mosel with the now fourth map at a scale of
1 : 25 000. This series of hiking maps, published by the Eifelverein in cooperation with Mosellandtouristik and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein's map series after all MOSEL hiking maps are finished, with Mosellauf in the southeast.
The new hiking map replaces, with a slightly changed sheet section, the previously issued and now outdated hiking map "Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Route" published by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. Hikers will be reliably guided on hikes in the holiday region Schweich along Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, side routes and dream loops with the new map. The Meulenwald hiking area is also shown on the map.
With Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded as "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail" pass through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route. Not only with the connected circular trails named "side route" and "dream loop," the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route forms an extensive and varied hiking trail network. This network is complemented by segments of the Eifelsteig with two partner routes, the Mosel Heights Trail, other main hiking trails of the Eifelverein, and numerous regional hiking trails, all included in the new hiking map. Selected cycling routes and five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Route are also shown on the map.
Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offers shown on the map, Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the five side routes "Longuicher Sauerbrunnen," "Zitronenkrämerkreuz," "Mehringer Schweiz," "Klüsserather Sagenweg," and "Moselachter" form the core of this new hiking map. The four Moselsteig stages and the five side routes are not only described bilingually in the map's inner part but also include elevation profiles with indications of hiking difficulty.
The basis of this detailed hiking map is the Official Topographic Map 1 : 25 000 by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform 7.90 EUR and is available at the Tourist-Information Roman Wine Route, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Mosellandtouristik, in bookstores, and of course also at the Eifelverein e. V., Stürtzstraße 2 - 6, 52349 Düren. It can also be ordered online around the clock at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
