Circular hike with wine estate and Bismarck tower

On this circular hike, you walk past the wine estate and the Bismarck tower in Schoden. The return route takes you back along the Saar riverside path to the starting point in Ockfen.

The start and finish is at the Weinhotel Klostermühle in Ockfen. First, walk the path between the winery and vineyards uphill towards the Ockfen church. Then continue up the stairs and turn right onto Herrenbergstraße. At the next crossroads, stroll left along Bocksteinstraße. After the last houses, walk a short distance further and then take the next street to the left, which leads directly to the Ockfen wine estate. At the estate, take the gravel path to the left through the vineyards and soon reach a short woodland area. You will soon see the Schoden Bismarck tower. Follow the path downhill to the left towards Schoden. First, cross the St. Bris bridge, then walk left along the main street in Schoden and you will soon reach the Saar. Now use the Saar riverside path towards Ockfen and after just over one kilometer you will reach the starting point in Ockfen.

The start and finish is at the Weinhotel Klostermühle in Ockfen. First, walk the path between the winery and vineyards uphill towards the Ockfen church. At the St. Valentin church, you have the opportunity to pause for a short moment of reflection. Then continue up the stairs and turn right onto Herrenbergstraße. At the next crossroads (phone booth), stroll left along Bocksteinstraße. After the last houses, walk a short distance further and then take the next street to the left, which leads directly to the Ockfen wine estate (sign: Drachenflieger). At the estate, take the gravel path to the left through the vineyards and soon reach a short woodland area. You will soon see the Schoden Bismarck tower. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful view from this tower over Schoden, Biebelhausen, Ayl, and Saarburg. Follow the path downhill to the left towards Schoden. First, cross the St. Bris bridge, then walk left along the main street in Schoden and you will soon reach the Saar. Now use the Saar riverside path towards Ockfen and after just over one kilometer you will reach the starting point in Ockfen.

 

Please note that this hiking path is not a certified premium hiking trail and there is no continuous signage along the route. Furthermore, parts of the path also run on paved farm roads and not on narrow trails.

Equipment

Please remember to wear sturdy footwear and bring packed food.

Tip

Take your time and enjoy the beautiful view from the Bismarck tower over Schoden, Biebelhausen, Ayl with the vineyard Ayler Kupp, and Saarburg.

Getting there

You can reach Ockfen from Saarburg via the L138.

Parking

Free parking is available at the car park at L 138.

DB route Trier - Saarbrücken to Schoden station
