Circular hike with vineyard estate and Bismarck Tower

On this circular hike you walk past the vineyard estate and the Bismarck Tower in Schoden. The return route leads you back along the Saar riverside path to the starting point in Ockfen.

Start and finish is at the Weinhotel Klostermühle in Ockfen. First, walk the path between the winery and vineyards uphill towards the Ockfen Church. Then continue up the stairs, turn right onto Herrenbergstraße. At the next intersection, walk left along Bocksteinstraße. After the last houses, continue a short distance and then take the next street on the left, which leads directly to the Ockfen vineyard estate. At the estate, choose the gravel path to the left through the vineyards and soon reach a small forested area. You will soon see the Schoden Bismarck Tower. Follow the path downhill to the left towards Schoden. First over the St. Bris bridge, then left along Schoden main street, you are immediately at the Saar. Now use the Saar riverside path towards Ockfen and you will reach the starting point in Ockfen after a little more than a kilometer.

Start and finish is at the Weinhotel Klostermühle in Ockfen. First, walk the path between the winery and vineyards uphill towards the Ockfen Church. At St. Valentin Church, you have the opportunity to take a short moment of reflection. Then continue up the stairs, turn right onto Herrenbergstraße. At the next intersection (phone booth), walk left along Bocksteinstraße. After the last houses, continue a short distance and then take the next street on the left, which leads directly to the Ockfen vineyard estate (sign Drachenflieger). At the estate, choose the gravel path to the left through the vineyards and soon reach a small forested area. You will soon see the Schoden Bismarck Tower. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful view from this tower over Schoden, Biebelhausen, Ayl, and Saarburg. Follow the path downhill to the left towards Schoden. First over the St. Bris bridge, then left along Schoden main street, you are immediately at the Saar. Now use the Saar riverside path towards Ockfen and you will reach the starting point in Ockfen after a little more than a kilometer.

 

Please note that this hiking trail is not a certified premium hiking trail and there is no continuous signage of the route. Furthermore, the path partly runs on asphalted agricultural roads and not on narrow paths.

Equipment

Please remember sturdy footwear and a packed lunch.

Tip

Take your time and enjoy the beautiful view from the Bismarck Tower over Schoden, Biebelhausen, Ayl with the vineyard site Ayler Kupp and Saarburg.

Getting there

You can reach Ockfen from Saarburg via L138.

Parking

Free parking is available at the parking lot on L 138.
