Beautiful, approximately 7 km long circular route around Binsfeld over soft forest paths and through the nature reserve "Tongruben bei Binsfeld" with many bodies of water and rare animal and plant species.

The circular route is marked with black letters and the number 2 (Bi2) and starts in the heart of the small Eifel community. Via "Dechant-Schmitz-Straße" the route leaves Binsfeld. It goes steadily downhill until after about 600 m the Linsenbach is crossed. Soon the circular route turns left and continuously ascends from KM 1 before it meets the cycle path between Arenrath and Herforst after about 3 km in the forest. About 500 m further, the circular hike leaves the cycle path briefly and leads past a historic wayside cross. Shortly after, both paths lead together through the nature reserve "Tongruben bei Binsfeld" back to the village. The remarkable nature reserve covers about 17 hectares and is a man-made paradise for rare animal and plant species listed on the Red List. After the end of clay and gravel extraction, numerous bodies of water have formed here, which are now used as habitats by newts, toads, frogs, dragonflies, and many other species.

General information

Directions

The circular route (Bi2) starts at the village square, the intersection of Wittlicher and Kirchstraße. Via "Dechant-Schmitz-Straße", passing the cemetery, we leave Binsfeld. It goes steadily downhill until after about 600 m the Linsenbach is crossed. Soon it turns left and from KM 1 it continuously goes uphill. After about 3 km, the circular route in the forest meets the cycle path between Arenrath and Herforst. About 500 m further, the cycle path is left for a short section and leads past a historic wayside cross. Shortly after, both paths meet again and lead together through the nature reserve "Tongruben bei Binsfeld" back to the village. The remarkable nature reserve covers about 17 hectares and is a man-made paradise for rare animal and plant species listed on the Red List. After the end of clay and gravel extraction, numerous idyllic bodies of water have formed here, which are now used as habitats by newts, toads, frogs, dragonflies, and many other species.

Safety Guidelines

The Bi2 circular route partly leads through the nature reserve "Tongruben bei Binsfeld". Nature reserves (NSG) are particularly valuable areas. Please pay attention to proper behavior during the hike: stay on paths and trails, do not pick plants, do not disturb animals, keep dogs on a leash, use dog waste bags, no camping or grilling, do not leave trash behind. Thank you!

Shoes with good tread provide sure footing even on damp forest paths.
