Hike in the area of the Avelsbach, which was extensively renatured in three construction phases from 2010 to 2015. The path passes a biotope, fruit trees with warmth-loving shrubs, the Thielsburg as well as the building of the Avelsbach estate, an important monument of economic and wine-growing history.

Start the hike at the parking lot of the Avelsbach estate, which was founded in 1896 on the initiative of the agricultural scientist Hugo Thiel (1839 – 1918) by the Prussian state as a model operation to promote rational viticulture methods and research plant protection methods.

Along the meadow path, the trail leads past the renatured Aveler Bach with its still water zones. Evident are the natural opening of the watercourse, the newly created biotopes and the so-called “stream classroom.”

At a fork in the path, it goes through the vineyards along the wine sites Altenberg, Herrenberg, Kupp, Hemmerstein and Rotlay up to the Thielsburg.  The tower-like mini castle, eleven meters in diameter, was built by the Prussians as a shelter for the vineyard workers.

The path then winds back down through the vineyards to the valley, from where you follow the stream again back to the starting point.
