A beautiful circular hike through the forest near Neumagen-Dhron. Almost exclusively on forest paths and along the course of the Dhron, hikers can look forward to wonderful views.

On lonely paths and along idyllic river courses, the hike goes around the Harpelstein. The said rock is the namesake of this hiking route and is now under nature protection.

Insights into the hike:

In the Dhron valley, where the two Hunsrück streams "Kleine" and "Große Dhorn" merge, the circular hike around the Harpelstein begins. On forest and meadow paths, the hiking trail passes giant sequoias, the Heusprungbach stream, a quarry, and the Hunsrück municipality of Horath. Characteristics of the route are peace, quiet, and beautiful views.

It is recommended to hike the route counterclockwise. This keeps the ascent on the forest path to the village of Horath, 5 1/2 kilometers away, always moderate. Refreshment options are available in Horath, which is reached approximately halfway through the route. During the hike, there are also various rest areas where you can enjoy the view and consume your brought provisions.

General information

Directions

Just a few kilometers away from the Moselle valley lies Papiermühle, a district of Neumagen-Dhron. Here in the Dhron valley, where the Kleine and Große Dhron – two Hunsrück streams – merge, you start the hike "Around the Harpelstein" at the end of Harpelstein Street in a right curve. It is recommended to hike the route counterclockwise. This way, the ascent on the forest path to the village of Horath, 5 1/2 kilometers away, remains moderate. Along the way, you pass individual giant sequoias, the Heusprungbach stream, a small quarry (where the wood for the STELLA Noviomagi was cut), and the junction to the dream loop "Dhrontal-Wackentour." In Horath, turn left at the first opportunity onto Schulstraße and Königsgartenstraße. You then leave the village again along meadows. At the forest edge near a hut, there is the possibility to make a detour to the family hotel Haus Hochwald and stop for refreshments. Otherwise, you pass another junction of the dream loop and hike uphill into the forest. The return route leads exclusively through the forest. Shortly before Papiermühle, there is a rest area at the Veltenbach stream.
