Animated film, Fantasy, Children & Family film, BE, FR, LV 2025, age rating 6

Director: Gints Zilbalodis

Animation film without dialogue about a brave cat in a world unfamiliar to her

The little black cat cannot believe her eyes when the world she knows is swept away by a large tidal wave. With great effort, she manages to escape onto a sailboat, where she soon finds company with a Labrador, a capybara, a little monkey, and a secretary bird. At first glance, the animal gang couldn't be more different, but in the face of a world unfamiliar to them, they soon band together.

“Flow” is one of the few animated films and feature films in general that manages without any dialogue. What the audience hears are the natural sounds of the animals depicted. The film is underscored by the music of composer Richard Zaļupe, who had previously impressed with his haunting melodies for “Away.”
The extraordinary animated film celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2024, where it was shown in the “Un Certain Regard” section. Subsequently, the animated film won both the Jury Award and the Audience Award at the prestigious Annecy Animation Festival and managed to secure the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards against blockbuster productions like “Inside Out 2” and “The Wild Robot.” Additionally, the animated film received a second nomination in the Best International Film category for Latvia.
