Kaimt Cultural Cinema – ‘Wilma Wants More’

Electrician, machinist, fruit expert, optimist: Wilma (Fritzi Haberlandt) is a woman with many talents, countless certificates, and truckloads of disappointments. Until the end of the 90s, she lived in the Lusatian lignite mining area. But when her husband cooks spaghetti completely naked with another woman and she is fired from her job at the hardware store, Wilma hastily leaves her homeland for Vienna. In her mid-40s, she has to start almost from scratch here and quickly finds herself on the handyman scene. Soon, she repairs her way through Vienna's outer districts, ends up in a leftist Bohemian shared apartment, becomes an expert in all kinds of repairs, and even a teacher at a traditional dance school. Between waltzes and electrical installations, Wilma discovers a feeling she had long forgotten: to be in love, to be happy, the excited hope for something new. Thrown into the uncertainties of a future where anything is possible, Wilma becomes a different person.

WILMA WANTS MORE is a charming, empathetically observed, and humorously told tragicomedy that is as precise in its depiction of reality as it remains optimistic in its hopeful and touching melancholy.
