“Branch Office” is the feature film debut of director Julius Grimm, who takes a humorous and sharp-eyed look at the bureaucracy of Germany. The idea of relocating life after death to a Bavarian authority is as original as it is biting – and plays with the typically German passion for regulations.
As if they didn’t already have enough problems, Resi and her three friends get into a fatal accident on their way to the Alps. Promptly, the group finds themselves in a Bavarian afterlife authority, which is supposed to decide their further fate. Elysium, purgatory, rebirth – everything seems possible. But when it becomes clear that the group lacks any conviction, the crucial question arises: What the hell happens to someone who believed in NOTHING during their lifetime?
With a lot of humor and a keen sense for the absurd, director Julius Grimm lets the up-and-coming stars Sarah Mahita, David Ali Rashed, Nhung Hong, Beritan Balci, and Julian Gutmann fight against the bureaucratic madness in the afterlife in his feature film debut. They receive prominent support from Rick Kavanian, Rainer Bock, Luise Kinseher, and Maxi Schafroth. The film is musically accompanied by Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys.
