Actually, it’s just a formality: Heribert (Hape Kerkeling), long-standing chairman of the Lengenheide tennis club, and his ambitious deputy Matthias (Friedrich Mücke) are letting the members vote on purchasing a grill for the upcoming club party. The trendy copywriter Torsten (Christoph Maria Herbst), who has moved from Berlin to the provinces, throws out a witty remark to bring the dreary assembly to a quick end. Then his wife Melanie (Anja Knauer) suggests buying a second grill for their doubles partner Erol (Fahri Yardim) and the only Muslim member of the club. After all, devout Muslims are known not to place their sausages on a grill with pork. The well-intentioned idea leads, sentence by sentence, to a turbulent exchange of blows, where atheists and believers, Germans and Turks, do-gooders and hardliners clash head-on.
