Walburga-Wanderweg in Pluwig

We recommend the sports field in Pluwig as the starting point for our hike, where you will find a sufficient number of free parking spaces. You can also start from here on any other route around Pluwig.

Passing the local dog school/boarding kennel and the path first leads us into the valley in the direction of the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path. We follow the cycle path for a short distance until we take a parallel path along the Ruwer, where the first benches invite us to linger along the romantic course of the river.

Here we also encounter the Romika trail, which will accompany us for a while. Later, we change to the other side of the cycle path on the path between the edge of the forest and the Ruwer, away from the hustle and bustle of the "mature" athletes.

Back on the cycle path, we immediately cross the country road to begin our ascent towards Pluwig. Even before the Romika Weg dream loop leaves us again, a large bench invites us to rest and enjoy a beautiful view of the meadows and pastures and the neighbouring village of Gusterath.

Back in Pluwig, we walk along the outer edge of the village. Here the 3 Pluwig hiking trails meet and accompany each other for a while. At the end of the village, we begin our ascent to the heights through the new development area. After we have said goodbye to the Panaromaweg and reached the highest point of the new development area, a beautiful forest path in the direction of Geizenburg invites us to visit Walburga. On the way, the Karl May hiking trail leaves us again and we reach a crossroads where we can make a detour to the statue of the person who gave our hiking trail its name.

After our little detour, we quickly reach the country road and the district of Geizenburg, which we walk through. At the upper end of the village, on the edge of a weekend area, we have a view of the neighbouring communities of Schöndorf, Hinzenburg and Ollmuth, and at the end of it our last ascent to the heights above Pluwig. Once there, we overlook the communities on the opposite side Hockweiler, Gusterath and Lonzenburg. Soon our hike is over and we reach the centre of the village again, passing cow and horse pastures. The way back to the car park now leads us across the church square and past the multi-generation square.

In principle, entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is at your own risk.

Depending on the season and the weather, increased surefootedness is required on some sections of the trail. Therefore, wear clothing appropriate to the season and the weather and hiking boots with an appropriate tread.

ATTENTION: The rock spur at the Walburga statue is NOT secured by a railing!

Sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, provisions recommended.

Rest by the Ruwer and listen to the relaxing lapping of the water.
